State’s Budget Is Gloomier To Tune Of $40 Million

This year’s General Fund shortfall has grown $39.9 million to $600.6 million, state economists told the Legislative Council, a committee of top legislative leaders.
But there are hopeful signs, economist Natalie Mullis told legislators. Jobs are being created in a temporary services category that’s an early indicator of recovery. Also, consumer spending is trending up.
State revenue will actually grow this year, but money available to be spent is down.
