Tuesday Trial Watch: Man Found Guilty Of Swindling Department Of Revenue

Hysear Don Randell was convicted Monday for the theft of nearly $11 million from the Colorado Department of Revenue through fraudulent tax refunds. Randell’s ex-girlfriend, Michelle Cawthra, is serving a 24-year prison term on similar charges. Randall’s sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 25.

CPA In Court On Felony Theft Charges
Brenda Meier appeared in Weld District Court on Monday on allegations that she stole thousands from a group of companies owned by Greeley businessmen. Meier allegedly stole almost $157,000.

Elmarr Opening Arguments To Start
A spokesperson for Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett said opening arguments for the Kevin Elmarr murder trial will start Wednesday or Thursday. Elmarr is charged with killing Carol Murphy in 1987.

Cop To Be Charged For Brandishing Weapon
Arapahoe County District Attorney Carol Chambers announced Monday she will charge Denver Police Officer Derrick Saunders for allegedly brandishing a gun at an Aurora McDonald’s restaurant after his order took too long. Saunders will be charged with felony menacing and was suspended from the force May 21.

Mistrial In Parachute Sex Assault
Michael William Wood, a 48-year-old Parachute man, will receive a new trial after a jury was hung on alleged sexual assault charges. The new trial will be held in October.

Defense Wants Special Prosecutor In Case Against Former Cop
Defense attorneys for the former Aspen police officer accused of hiding a video camera in a shower used by a teenage girl will ask for a special prosecutor in the case since the Aspen police work closely with the District Attorney’s Office.
